So how does this all work?

Data Virtuality offers three different solutions so you can find the best fit for your use case:

In Data Virtuality Logical Warehouse, we support two different versions:

  1. Get your data right from Adobe Analytics with the RestAPI.
  2. Get your raw Adobe Analytics data from an FTP server.
RestAPI

 

In the RestAPI version, you can access the data through the API by defining JSON requests. Adobe Analytics will then return parsed results. That means, once you start your queries, Data Virtuality gets the reports in Adobe Analytics and makes them available together with all those from the other connected data sources on the Data Virtuality Server.

Once all the data sources are combined, you can retrieve the data that you need at any time to your convenience, for example in your BI tool such as Tableau. In order to do so, you will just have to define the data models in Data Virtuality before you join all data sources. You or any of your colleagues can now log into the BI tool and are ready to analyze the data. Prior training in Adobe Analytics isn't necessary.

FTP

 

In the FTP version, you can import all raw data from your Adobe Analytics suite. The data is then moved into a target storage. In this scenario, Data Virtuality replicates your data into your database. The procedures to access the raw data are dynamically generated based on the structure of your Adobe Analytics exports.

Another interesting aspect of the FTP Adobe Analytics connector is the fact that you can leverage the raw data for machine learning, data science and predictive analytics. Once the data is replicated into the target storage, it can be organized and structured for the next steps.

RestAPI

 

In the RestAPI version, you can replicate real-time data and queued reports in order to create very detailed reports customized to your specific needs.

How to set up the connector using RestAPI?

1. The connectors are provided by Data Virtuality as a SQL script. In the green section "Virtual schemas", you can see virtual schemas with views and stored procedures. In the blue section "Data sources", you can see tables and stored procedures.

In the virtual schema, you'll need: Adobe_SITE_catalyst_connector,...

... and in data source: Site_catalyst_ws

 

2. Fill in your credentials

Click the right mouse button to edit the data source. All information that is needed such as “end point” is already in. You just have to fill in clientSecret and clientID which you get from your Adobe Analytics account under “data source parameters”.

Don’t worry about security! We use https (encrypted security). On top of that, you don’t have to put in your client login credentials but only your Rest API credentials which gives further security.

 

3. Now the connector is set up and you’re ready to go!

 

How to call the RestAPI?

For demo purposes, we created a schema called Adobe_SITE_catalyst_connetor_example in which we will demonstrate you how this connector works in reality.

The actual calls are made by Procedures. Procedures can then be stored in run_report (there are 83 procedures but you only need this one).

Under Tables/views, you can see samples of some reports that are in Adobe Analytics. This can especially be interesting if you have many different reports in various countries: reports from all report suites can be retrieved in this view without having to write them all.

How do I run the reports?

Let’s take a closer look at a specific example on how the Data Virtuality Adobe Analytics connector works. For this, we created the View called example_Report_Get_Queued_Report.

  • Set start date: in2_dateFrom => ‘2014-08-01’,
  • Set end date: in2_dateTo => ‘2014-08-31’,
  • Set regularity: in2_dateGranularity => ‘month’
  • Set metrics: in2_metrics => ‘{“id”: “totalvisits”}’,

Now you can run this query in Data Virtuality Logical Data Warehouse. A request is sent to Adobe Analytics and the result is displayed.

To summarize, we created a report based on data from the report suite with the ID compdatavirtualitytest that shows total visits to the website on a monthly basis from 2014-08-01 to 2014-08-31.

FTP

 

The steps to set up are very similar to the one described in the RestAPI
version.

There is a difference in regards to credentials. For the authentication, you will need to fill in your FTP credentials (i.e. login data incl. User name and Password)

The security is provided via SFTP (encrypted and secure).

Different to the RestAPI version, procedures are generated dynamically based on the structure of the table. Additionally data can be exported daily or hourly.
